MORE than £6,000 was raised at a dinner and auction for the new pavilion at Henley Cricket Club.
The annual event at the Loch Fyne restaurant in Market Place — the club’s sixth at the venue — featured a Scots piper and a stand-up comedian.
David Winter, the club’s fund-raising chairman, said: “The piper piped around 100 guests into dinner and comedian Ian Irving did a marvellous job entertaining everyone and conducting the auction.”
The auction raised £4,000 with another £2,000 made from the sale of tickets for the champagne reception, three-course meal and the club’s traditional crab platter.
Auction prizes included coaching sessions by all-rounder Mark Alleyne at Lord’s, a hamper from Loch Fyne and holidays in South Africa and Cornwall.
The pavilion is being built at the club’s Brakspear ground and should be completed by April in time for the new season.
The club has already received £250,000 from South Oxfordshire District Council and £120,000 from the England and Wales Cricket Board as well as contributions from members and sponsors.
