VANDALS sent three boats drifting down the river, damaging the paintwork on another vessel.
The boats were untied from the moorings at Mill Meadows in Henley last Sunday night. Staff of the Hobbs boatyard retrieved them the following morning.
An aluminium boat was trapped next to one of Hobbs’s passenger boats, scratching its newly painted side.
Kim Clifford, a skipper who helped recover the boats, said: “They should have had chains on them so they wouldn’t get set adrift. We’ll repair the paintwork on our boat ourselves, it’s just frustrating as it has just been done.”
One of the boats released belonged to the boat yard and the vandals also attempted to untie one of its passenger boats but it was chained securely.
Peter Herbert, who works for Hobbs, said: “This type of vandalism has happened before but not for a while.”
