THE car park behind Sonning Common village hall will be closed from 8am on Monday, October 1 until Friday, October 12.
It will allow major work funded by The Co-operative to take place.
At least nine new spaces will be available and properly marked out as well as an additional disabled space.
Drainage problems are also expected to be solved, new fencing will be installed and internal signing and lighting improved.
A display advising drivers whether there is space will also be installed in the entrance.
John Stoves, vice chairman of Sonning Common Parish Council, said: “We very much welcome this improvement to our parking facilities and are pleased that The Co-operative is living up to its reputation for supporting local communities.
“We hope that the new display will result in more people being able to use the car park when making short visits to the shops.
“We ask everyone to be patient and considerate while the work is in progress as the result should be worth the trouble.”
Darren Hall, regional property manager for The Co-operative, said: “As a community retailer, we are pleased to be working alongside the parish council.
“We are sure that when the repair work has been completed, a car park suitable to the needs of local people will have been delivered.”
Responsibility for the car park was transferred to Somerfield by the parish council in December 2005. It was passed on to The Co-operative acquired the supermarket chain.
