Surprise tipple

But the Henley MP was a little disappointed when one of the props at a photocall he attended on Friday wasn’t the genuine article.

Mr Howell was in Cuxham to celebrate the roll-out of high-speed broadband in the village and toasted the occasion with a glass of red wine — or so he thought.

Later, he told guests that it came as “quite a shock” that the dark red liquid in his glass wasn’t in fact wine but Ribena. Then again it was 10.30am.
