Petition launched against bank closure

A PETITION is to be launched over the planned closure of the Lloyds Bank in Caversham

A PETITION is to be launched over the planned closure of the Lloyds Bank in Caversham.

It will be spearheaded by Reading East MP Rob Wilson after he met customers concerned about the move outside the branch in Bridge Street on Friday.

Mr Wilson said: “I am more convinced that Lloyds did not consider the full ramifications of its decision to close the Caversham branch, overlooking especially how much customers need and value the branch as an important part of the local community.

“Many with whom I spoke are seriously considering changing their bank to branches who remain in Caversham, a move which I encourage as if Lloyds does not wish to support Caversham, then Caversham shouldn’t continue to support Lloyds.

“We believe that Lloyds’ Caversham branch should remain open as part of the thriving community.”

Mr Wilson will launch the petition at St Martin’s Precinct in Caversham on Saturday at 10.30am.

Lloyds announced the closure in August, saying the branch was less busy and more than 90 per cent of personal customers used other branches.
