Find your riverside idyll on the banks of the Thames

by Jacky Hayler

EACH year, hundreds of crews compete in one of the largest regattas in the country, in traditional boats, on the River Thames.

Wargrave and Shiplake hold one of the largest regattas on the Thames with races for skiffs, punts and canoes — this year it takes place today, Friday, and tomorrow, Saturday.

It is a local regatta, but each year friends, distant relatives, former residents and the plain interested come from all over Britain and distant corners of the globe to compete, meet friends and family and soak up the pleasure of simply mucking about in boats.

That is not to say that the competition is not serious and that the standards of traditional rivercraft are not of the highest order. As a result we decided to take a look at the properties available in and around Wargrave and Shiplake.

The Bungalow at Wargrave sits in a superb position just on the edge of this popular village close to Henley.
