Half-a-dozen wins for Henley juniors

HENLEY Rowing Club’s juniors came away with six wins at the Wallingford Long Distance Sculls last

HENLEY Rowing Club’s juniors came away with six wins at the Wallingford Long Distance Sculls last Saturday over the gruelling 4.2km course.

Henley’s junior women proved to be a dominant force. The winning ways started with the junior women’s J16 quad and J15 coxed quads. The J15 crew of Georgia Brown, Freya Jonsson, Amber Weller, Carla Russell and cox Ella Nolson won by 21 seconds against City of Oxford with the second Henley crew only three seconds behind in third place.

The J16 girls of Amelia Crick, Sophia Hahn, Jessica Arlett and Caoimhe O’Donohue had a similar victory over second placed Lea RC by 23 seconds.

The junior women’s J18 quad of Georgie Robinson Ranger, Mary Wright, Clare Pearson and Lauren Kay stole the show, beating off six other boats in the clash and delivering the fifth fastest time (16 minutes, 47 seconds) across all ages/classifications on the day.

The women’s J18 double delivered the fastest time from nine boats in the category.



Individual success was also seen from Helen Robinson Granger (WJ17) and Lauren Kay (WJ18) in the single sculls.

Bruce Turnell finished third for Henley boys’ out of 19 in J17 single sculls while Balthazar Issa was fourth out of 23 in J16 single sculls.
