Issa shines at GB trials

HENLEY Rowing Club’s J16 sculler Balthasar Issa had a very successful weekend at the recent GB rowing team assessment in Boston, Lincolnshire.

Competing twice over the 5km course, Issa was well placed on the Saturday, but on the Sunday put in a fine performance to win outright the J16 2x trial.

The Henley sculler was racing with Connor Brown representing Abingdon School, but who is coached in sculling by Henley’s chief boys’ coach Tony Bailes.

Issa and Brown came home seven seconds clear of a Marlow double crew who in turn were five seconds ahead of Lea RC. Marlow and Lea were silver and gold medallists respectively from last year’s British Rowing Championships.
