Success for Upper Thames

UPPER THAMES started their regatta season with a win in elite coxless fours at Wallingford regatta on Sunday.

The crew of Luke Wootton, Graham Hall, Sam Barnes and Jake Davidson dominated the event to win by more than two lengths from rivals Thames Rowing Club, with Imperial College London and Vesta further back.

In the women’s double sculls Pippa Birch and Rachel Weager finished second overall despite being only recently paired up in the new look women’s squad.

Nikki Brown and Vicky Myers finished third in women’s pairs with Natasha Harris White and Gaby Halloran also putting in a strong showing.

In the men’s eight that beat Radley College, the crew contained three veterans, one of whose sons goes to the school. Their time of six minutes, nine seconds in the qualifying round was just 0.7 seconds slower than Leander’s development crew, meaning they narrowly missed a place in the final.
