Upper Thames secure top prize

DESPITE only boating a relatively small number of crews at Nottingham’s Master Rowing Championship on Sunday, Upper Thames came away with the top Victor Ludorum prize and with it £1,000 in prize money.

The wins were spread across the age range from Masters A (27 to 35) to Masters H (70 to 74) and the Victor Ludorum was only won in the last race of the day.

In all the club won six gold medals, three silvers and two bronze.

The crew of Clive Copper, Gareth Morris, Graham Lloyd, Tim Senior, John Ewans, Alex Jessel, Jon Thornber, Pete Jacobs and Davina Guiness won the D eights while Jon Thornber, Alex Jessel, John Ewans, Pete Jacobs and Davina Guiness triumphed in the D coxed fours. Tom Carter secured gold in a composite crew in the B quad sculls as well as winning the A single sculls.

Bill Evans, Peter Taylor, Tony Rose and Mike Dudley triumphed in the H coxless fours as well as in a composite G/H eight.
