School crews rise to the challenge in national showdown

THE National Schools’ Regatta in Nottingham, featuring clubs and schools from across the country, provided a stern test for local crews.

The event - Britain’s largest regatta for juniors - gave The Oratory School’s 1st eight a chance to see where they ranked against the country’s top rowers.

The Oratory crew are a young crew who are making progress with every session they have but struggled in their event, where they finished a creditable 15th in a strong field of 21 crews.

While initially disappointed with the result, the Oratory crew have now seen the standard required and worked hard over the half term to give themselves the best chance to qualify for Henley Royal Regatta.

The J15 were represented by a coxed four, who with only a limited amount of time together, put in a strong performance and narrowly missed making the semi-finals in a high class event.
