Newman dominates for Vikings at Egham

SHIPLAKE VIKINGS took a reduced squad to Egham Regatta on Sunday as many entries were rejected as the regatta was hugely oversubscribed.

Oli Gerrard and Seb Newman were the Division 1 entries in the J16 single sculls and both scullers easily won their first rounds.

In the next round Gerrard met a Molesey sculler who, in a very tight race, won by a foot while Newman progressed to the semi-finals beating a Windsor Boys’ sculler.

After a convincing semi-final win Newman, racing one year in advance of his age group, came up against the sculler who had earlier beaten Gerrard. After much the better start Newman dominated the final winning by four lengths.

In Division 2 the girls’ double of Alina Budden and Milly Cook won their first round but were beaten by a canvas in the second.
