Henley mix it up to secure medal haul

THE full spectrum of athletes from Henley Rowing Club out in force at the weekend as masters, seniors and junior crews returned with a haul of medals from Reading Town and Egham regattas.

The masters coxed four of Lenny Roe, Barry Redman, John Foddy, Lucas Jones and cox Alicia Redman competed in the A novice event at Reading.

Racing over the 800-metre upsteam course in one of the closest races of the regatta, the Henley crew went bow ball to bow ball with Eton Excelsior for the first 600 metres.

In the last 200 metres the Eton boat took the lead, only for the valiant Henley rowers to make a push in the final 15 strokes to win with a half length advantage.

In the Intermediate 3 single sculls, Ranulph Steiger raced successfully through the first round against Molesey and Reading Rowing Clubs, before losing narrowly in the final against Rob Roy Boat Club and BTC Southampton Rowing Club.
