Cousins and Lambert help quad secure Lucerne gold

EIGHTEEN Leander athletes won medals at the third World Cup regatta in Lucerne, with pride of place going to Alex Gregory in the men’s four, and Charles Cousins and Pete Lambert in the men’s quad.

While Gregory’s triumph was predictable after his crew’s European championship title earlier in the season, the quad’s win was less certain, despite the crew’s gold medal three weeks ago in France.

Cousins and Lambert, together with Graeme Thomas of Agecroft and Sam Townsend of Reading University, were fourth after 500 metres, where Estonia moved through to take the lead ahead of Poland.
