Same again as Leander retain British Championship crown

Same again as Leander retain British Championship crown
LEANDER athletes triumphed once again at the senior British Championships in Nottingham last weekend, where they retained the victor ludorum trophy for the most successful club overall.

But yet again the vagaries of the Nottingham weather made their mark on the racing programme.

Gusts of up to 40mph at the Holme Pierrepont course prevented semi-finals and finals taking place on Sunday, meaning medals were handed out based on the morning’s time trial results.

In a change of tactics from last year, when Leander swept the board in the openweight events, the club scattered their development athletes amongst the crews, giving less experienced rowers the chance to compete alongside the club’s GB internationals.

Gold in the men’s eights went to the star-studded Leander crew, stroked by Alex Gregory. Also on board from this year’s world championship winning line-up were Matt Gotrel and cox Phelan Hill, together with lightweight bronze medallists Chris Bartley and Richard Chambers and development athletes Adam Neill and Ed Rippon.
