HENLEY Rowing Club’s senior squad returned from a training camp in Banyoles to compete at the two-day Metropolitan Regatta at Eton Dorney and bring home a brace of wins against stiff competition.
The regatta also provided Upper Thames with a victory, with Rachel Weager and Pippa Birch beating a strong field to bring home gold in the IM1 double sculls.
Genevieve Bailhache-Graham started Henley’s campaign on Saturday, securing a respectable fourth place in the women’s IM2 single sculls after sculling strongly through the latter part of the race.
The men’s elite quad of David Read, Josh Davidson, Tom Wilkinson and Jack Hockley took on Leander and Sir William Borlase’s in their Saturday final and finished in an extremely close third place.
Competing in a new line-up on the Sunday, the Women’s IM1 quad of Rachel Loveridge, Rachel Barnes-Willis, Elizabeth Williams and Victoria Carver cruised through their heat to secure a place in the final.
