Vikings conquer four events to secure runners-up spot

SHIPLAKE VIKINGS finished just behind Victor Ludorum winners Evesham at Warwick Regatta on Saturday after reaching the final of eight events and winning four.

Yasmin Prior and Suzy Penrose surprised a Warwick and Stratford crew in the WJ14 double sculls to reach the final against Evesham.

After a good start by the Viking double the greater cohesion of the Evesham crew showed in the final 100 metres and Vikings just lost out on the stagger. In the same event Megan Tooley and Amy Milner won their first race but the eventual winners were too strong in the semi-final.

Harry Berkley followed a win the previous week at Maidenhead in the intermediate 1 single sculls with a similar win on the Warwick course.

Ollie Gerrard and Will Carey suffered more by not knowing the course than by speed in the final of the J16 double sculls and, despite a fast finish, could not overhaul their Evesham opponents. Anna Davies and Tom Berkley easily won their semi-final in the intermediate 3 mixed double and then showed their domination in the final winning by three lengths at a low rate.
