LEANDER athletes returned triumphant from the World Championships in Amsterdam where the British team notched up four gold medals, four silvers and two bronze.
Fifteen members of the club won medals, with significant wins for the GB men’s eight and four, who retained their world titles in style, as did the para-rowing mixed coxed four.
The men’s quad won silver, as did the GB men’s coxed and coxless pairs, while the lightweight four and pair won bronze.
The GB men’s eight, which included four of last year’s gold medal crew, brought the regatta to a thrilling climax when they defended their title with a stunning performance which saw them cross the line ahead of the Olympic Champions from Germany with Poland in third.
“That was a crew effort,” said double Olympic champion Pete Reed in the five seat. “Everyone had their part to play and they all contributed.”
