Rower's pear tree prize

DOUBLE Olympic rowing champion and Leander captain Alex Gregory has received another award.

The 32-old, who won his second gold in Rio in the men’s coxless four, was among five Olympians and Paralympians to be honoured at the first Black Pear Tree Awards in Worcestershire.

Gregory, who went to school in the county and learned to row at Evesham Rowing Club, was presented with a black pear tree. He said he was honoured and would plant it at his home in Ipsden, where he lives with his partner Emily Airey and children, Jasper, six, and Daisy, two.
