SHIPLAKE COLLEGE crews put in an impressive performance in the J14 octuples in the National Sculling Head over the Olympic course at Dorney.

Adverse river conditions had severely limited the crews’ training, they had only managed one outing recently, but all three crews put in good performances.

Cosmo and Felix Hearnden set a good rhythm that the rest of the crew followed as they finished seventh out of 57 crews. The B crew finished ninth while the C crew beat several A crews. Tom Crisford, head of boats at Shiplake College, said: “This has certainly given a great insight to racing for these crews. They all now look forward to the summer regatta season and hopefully some good weather.”

The girls’ quad, who had four of their events cancelled this term, finished eighth out of 13 crews.

l Henley Rowing Club’s J14 quad of Charlie Rollet-Manus, Sim Sandhu, Tom Frost, Xiuchen Xu-Page and Jack Bond (cox) came third place out of 40 crews entered in their category.
