HENLEY Rowing Club’s Hugh Whitfield and Ian Giuliani broke the Masters G2X course record by eight minutes at last weekend’s Boston Marathon.
Held annually on the third Sunday of September, the marathon is a 50km rowing/sculling race from Lincoln to Boston that this year attracted 184 entries.
Both Whitfield and Giuliani have taken records in various masters divisions in single sculls and this was the first attempt together in a double scull.
They won their division (over 65 age group) and took the record in a time of four hours, 22 minutes and 19 seconds.
The Henley G2X was faster than the younger Masters D and E double sculls and was the fourth fastest double scull and overall was the twelfth fastest boat out of 154 finishers.
Elswehere Upper Thames’ John Halsall completed the course with his son in a double scull.
