SAMUEL MURRAY won gold at the British Championships in Nottingham on Sunday to take the men’s LTA singles title for Henley Rowing Club.
Leading from the front, Murray was first to the 500m mark and then capitalised on his lead to win in a time of nine minutes, 57.17 seconds, ahead of silver medallist Daniel Brown from Upper Thames.
Having only learned to scull this year, Murray is already part of the GB adaptive rowing team.
Henley were also represented in the women’s double scull event by the new pairing of Catriona Kay at bow and stroke Genevieve Bailhache-Graham.
After a strong semi-final performance in a crowded field, the Henley double sculled to a commendable third place in the D final on Saturday afternoon with a time of eight minutes, 44.46 seconds.
Commenting on the weekend’s competition, head coach Pete Wells said: “It’s very pleasing to see great performances from our newest squad members.
“We’re looking to build on this foundation over the forthcoming season as we welcome new athletes into the senior part of the club.”
