TWO Leander crews will contest this year’s Women’s Eights Head on Saturday, with Leander I, composed of the club’s GB internationals, leading the fleet of 300 crews over the four-and-a-quarter mile championship course from Mortlake to Putney.

With a crew including Katie Greves, Lou Reeve and Polly Swann from the GB women’s eight, and coxed by Zoe de Toledo, the line-up also includes junior world champion sculler Jess Leyden, and senior sculler Vicky Thornley.

The main competition for the head pennant looks set to come from another GB composite featuring the Olympic champions in women’s pairs, Heather Stanning and Helen Glover, at stroke and seven.

Leander II features a number of the club’s rising stars, including a number of athletes who joined the club’s development academy last September.

Both Henley and Upper Thames rowing clubs also have crews entered. The race starts at 9.30am.
