Howe and Jones win at small boats head

HENLEY Rowing Club’s junior men’s 16 double won their event at the Reading Small Boats Head

HENLEY Rowing Club’s junior men’s 16 double won their event at the Reading Small Boats Head last weekend.

The Reading course has some tricky bends, one complete with a submerged wreck, and narrow sections where overtaking is barred.

Overcoming all these issues, the double of Anthony Howe and Cameron Jones won the JM16 doubles with a committed row.

Demonstrating strength in depth, Henley entered seven scullers in the JM16 singles, where Bruce Turnell, Howe, Jones and Joe Zolkwer finished in the top 12 in a field of 30.

The highest placed Henley sculler, Turnell, who was third, then went straight out to row the 15 minute course again in JM17 singles. Despite sculling a year up, he finished fourth out of 11 in a time two seconds faster than his first JM16 race only two hours previously.
