LEANDER’S Tom Barras stamped his authority by five seconds on the open men’s single scull 5km time-trial
LEANDER’S Tom Barras stamped his authority by five seconds on the open men’s single scull 5km time-trial at the GB rowing team assessment in Boston, Lincolnshire, on Saturday.
Barras, who raced as a Cardiff University student in the GB Rowing Team quadruple scull at last year’s World U23 Championships, came home ahead of clubmate Harry Leask, who was part of the U23 men’s eight last season.
In the men’s pairs Leander’s Tim Clarke and Philip Congdon had to settle for second place by the tightest of margins from winners Michael Clover and Morgan Bolding of Oxford Brookes. The Leander pair finished just 0.59 of a second behind the winners.
Leander claimed runners-up spot in the men’s lightweight single sculls as Jonathan Jackson finished seven seconds behind Molesley’s Sam Tuck.
Emily Carmichael finished runner-up in the women’s single sculls. The Leander sculler finished six seconds behind Oxford University Women’s BC’s Anastasia Chitty.
