Leander women head to London

LEANDER’S women athletes will be making a strong bid for the title tomorrow (Saturday)

LEANDER’S women athletes will be making a strong bid for the title tomorrow (Saturday) at the Women’s Eights Head in London.

With all of their club’s GB internationals on Olympic preparation duties the development academy have joined forces with members of Tees and Reading University clubs to form a GB composite development crew, coached by Pete Sheppard.

The strongest competition is likely to come from Cambridge University, who are preparing for their traditional contest against Oxford on March 27.

The crew includes world silver medallist Karen Bennett together with U23 medallists Jo Wratten and Beth Bryan.

Coach Jane Hall says: “These athletes will be the next generation of GB internationals. They are all on the Olympic pathway and will be committing over the next four years to Tokyo and beyond.”

More than 300 crews will race the four and a quarter mile time trial from Mortlake to Putney, which gets under way at 12.45 pm.
