Upper Thames crew maintain perfect head of river record

THE Upper Thames Rowing Club’s Masters D eight, with an average age of more than 50, concluded

THE Upper Thames Rowing Club’s Masters D eight, with an average age of more than 50, concluded a 100 per cent win record over the winter head season with victory in the veterans’ head of the river race on the Thames from Mortlake to Putney.

Following their wins at Wallingford in November, Quintin Head in January and Reading in February, Upper Thames again achieved a narrow victory over a London Rowing Club crew of mostly ex-internationals, plus 26 other crews in this category from all over the UK and Europe.

The Upper Thames crew were the eight fastest out of 219 crews overall across all age categories with all of the faster crews in younger age groups.

The crew was made up of cox Brendan Desmond, stroke Peter Jacobs, Zad Rogers, Alex Jessel, Jon Thornber, Tim Senior, John Ewans, Mark Shimmin and Dan Sadler.
