Wilson and Jennings retain masters D title

HENLEY Rowing Club had success last weekend at both the Thames Valley Park Regatta as well as the National Masters Regatta.

At Reading’s Thames Valley Park event the club’s boys’ J14A came from behind to win their final in the last 150m while the J14 octuple powered to a victory in their event. The J15 boys double of Balti Issa and Ollie Taylor also won their event.

The winning ways continued with the J14 girls’ quad of Georgia Brown, Freya Jonsson, Amber Weller, Hazel Drury and cox Ella Shute who won by half a length against Lady Eleanor Holes School in a well fought final.

At the British Rowing Masters Championships held at the Holme Pierrpont’s Water Sports Centre in Nottingham, Henley’s masters E quad of Helen Knowles, Linda Thomas, Valerie Bennett and Helen Turnell finished third in their heat to qualify for the final where they narrowly missed out on a medal by finishing fourth.

Rob Wilson and Mike Jennings made it through to their masters D final which was competed for against a strong headwind and heavy. Wilson and Jennings were able to establish an early lead which they maintained to win their even for the third year in succession.
