Athlete organises new race

A NEW off-road running race will take place in Watlington on October 27.

A NEW off-road running race will take place in Watlington on October 27.

The inaugural Watlington Skyline is a 10-mile race organised by the team behind the biannual Watlington cross-country 10km in response to demand.

Race organiser Murray Bishop, from Pyrton, said: “We were getting queries from people who wanted to run something longer because longer races seem to be in vogue at the moment.”

The route differs from the 10km route and includes hill climbs and the Ridgeway.

Mr Bishop has organised the cross-country race with fellow runner Gus Williams since 2009.

He said: “We used to see each other running and we decided to organise the run to have a bit of fun and create a focal point for runners in the town.

“It started with a few local people and now it has grown into an event where lots of running clubs come because it is quite challenging.”

The Skyline race will start at the sports pavilion at 11am. Entry costs £5 in advance or £10 on the day and includes a free pint at the Fat Fox on completion.
