Parkrun applies for Town Council grant

A GRANT application has been submitted to Henley Town Council to launch a Parkrun in the town

A GRANT application has been submitted to Henley Town Council to launch a Parkrun in the town.

James Barr, a Parkrun member, says he needs another £3,000 for start-up costs, including timing equipment, markers to set out the course and a laptop to update Parkrun’s national database.

Parkrun involves free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world that are open to everyone.

Mr Barr already stages a weekly 5km run and the council has proposed using 40 Acre Field, off Valley Road, for the organised event.

Mr Barr said the actual start-up cost was £6,000 but half would come from Parkrun itself, adding: “I hope my application will be looked upon favourably.”

Councillors advised him to approach local businesses about sponsoring the event.
