Reading Sailing Club

AN impressive fleet of 39 dinghies and yachts took part in Bart’s Bash at Sonning Eye on Sunday, September 21.

The race, dubbed “the largest sailing race in the world”, was instigated to raise money for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation, which was set up in memory of the America’s Cup sailor and Olympic champion.

The club was delighted to support this brilliant charity and raised more than £210 from race entry fees and the sale of Danish pastries to the hungry sailors.

Many sailors also set up online justgiving pages to support the event. Bart’s Bash is a global sailing race which takes place at sailing clubs across the world to raise money for charity, inspire the next generation and remember “Bart” Simpson.

In order to validate the world record attempt, the club had to have independent stewards and witnesses to verify the number of yachts taking part and completing the 1km course.
