VANDALS flooded Shiplake scout hut after breaking in and turning on taps.
They smashed a lock on the entrance and fled without stealing anything but left the water running.
The break-in happened over the weekend but was not discovered until Monday evening when beaver leader Kaeti Martin went to the hut in Shiplake Row to get ready for a group meeting.
She found the floor was heavily soaked and reported this to group scout leader Debs Boughey whose father Ernie Povey, who lives in the village, provided a dehumidifier to help dry it out.
The building is back in use but the full extent of the damage is still to be determined.
The group is currently trying to raise at least £5,000 for a new roof as the existing one leaks.
Mr Povey said: “Given the issues they’re facing with the roof, this is the last thing that needed to happen. It just compounds the problem.
“I just don’t know what to say about it -— what on earth do these people get from doing something so mindless and destructive? It’s just lucky it was caught fairly early or the damage could have been far worse.”
Anyone with information should call Thames Valley Police on 101, quoting reference number 431 700 22221.
