Pub sale

A PUB in Shiplake has been sold by Brakspear.

The Plowden Arms, off the A4155, had been marketed by estate agents Fleurets for £450,000.

The sale, which is subject to contract, did not include the former function room, adjacent gardens and part of the car park.

Residents fear this means the site could be redeveloped for housing as the sale listing said it had “alternate use potential”.

Pub regular Mark Manson, of Schoolfields, Shiplake, said: “It means Shiplake could become a one pub village. We have extra houses coming but nowhere to go. I don’t want a block of flats or two five-bedroom houses, I want a busy community pub.”

The pub includes a 42-cover restaurant and private accommodation with four bedrooms.

Matthew and Ruth Woodley, who took over the pub in 2012, are to leave in April.
