Thorne is a hot-shot at Stony Castle

SIX Old Oratorians and six current pupils made up two teams to shoot the Malvern Cup at the NRA Rifle Ranges in Bisley, shooting over 300 and 600 yards.

At 300 yards the conditions were poor with heavy rain and wind.

Oratory Scottish international Niall Duncan only dropped one point with Somerset Maitland and Cameron Gray shooting well.

When the team had to move back to the 600 yards line, the coaches were called for discussion. Conditions had closed in, with some thunder and lightning in the distance but both teams shot well in extreme conditions with targets often blurred by the storm, making Chris Mitchell’s 35 with seven V bulls a remarkable score. Duncan continued to shoot well, dropping only one point at 600 yards.

At the end of the match the Oratory took second and third in the team event, Maitland taking second individual and Gray third.
