Local riders scoop prizes at Novice Show

THE Spring Novice Show was held at Hall Place Equestrian Centre, Reading in April. Winners from all classes received vouchers

THE Spring Novice Show was held at Hall Place Equestrian Centre, Reading in April. Winners from all classes received vouchers from Centaur Photographic kindly donated by show sponsor, Alec Whitby.

The Best Turned Out was Guardsman ridden by Angie Andrews from Princes Risborough. The 23-year-old Welsh Section D was also placed first in the veteran class.

10-year-old Jessica McConkey enjoyed a successful day with Maggie Mae to win Best Child Handler, Best Bay and Pony Club Pony. Jessica, from Britwell Salome, is trained by Debbie Morten who has been “inspirational”.0

“Maggie Mae is proving to be a superstar, she also loves to jump and never lets me down!” said Jessica.

Best black was won by thoroughbred cross mare Ellexa with Anastasia Bishop. Annie from Calcot became Ella’s new owner just a few weeks before the show.

Kildedahl’s Attention took first place in Best Chestnut with Fiona Clarke. Kildedahl is a four-year-old 16.1hh Danish Warmblood, stabled near Eversley Cross.

Farley Hill young rider, Aidan Chandler, aged four, was the winner of Best Coloured/Roan with his pony Trigger.

Abbisfields Pandora aka ‘Bea’ took the ribbons in Family Pony. Bea is a new ride for seven-year-old Edward Jones from Pangbourne. She is owned by the McClelland family from Upper Basildon.

Lucy Harris enjoyed the day with first place in the Mountain and Moorland Large Breeds with Embar, and first in Prettiest Mare.

Lucy said: “This was my first show with Embar. She was so well behaved and knew exactly what to do.”

Embar is a Welsh Section D chestnut mare from Hall Place Equestrian Centre.

The Best In Show Championship was sponsored by the British Equestrian Trade Association. Judges Mrs J Gaut and Mrs D Bonner were united in their decision — Best In Show went to the winner of Youngstock, three-year-old Ruben. This super dark bay gelding is by the top polo pony Dandy Constancio and out of the outstanding polo pony mare Lunar.
