Learning to ride the ‘Smartie’ way

CAROLINE BOWERS from Maidensgrove has started a new business following her own fulfilling experience of teaching her grandchildren to ride.

Caroline, who has owned, ridden and worked with horses all her life, said: “Learn With Smartie is all about children having safe fun and learning how to ride and handle ponies. It is very rewarding to be teaching children whose parents I taught when they were young!”

Currently, there are three ponies — Smartie, a Shetland pony perfect for tiny and smaller children, and Welsh ponies Poppy and Sovereign, ideal for older and bigger children. All three ponies love children and have kind and gentle temperaments. There is a variety of options available, ranging from short taster sessions to more formal instruction. As well as rides across the farm, you can also ride through the Chiltern beech woods, along the lanes of the adjacent nature reserve or across Maidensgrove Common.
