NOW recognised as being one of the leading centres of its type, Didcot Railway Centre first opened as a visitor attraction in 1967.
The coming spring bank holiday weekend sees the centre returning to an event it has not held for a number of years: a diesel gala. The gala will feature at least six visiting guest locomotives, as well as GWR Diesel Railcar 22 and 08604 from the home fleet. Also requested are one or two very modern locomotives, though it will not be known until very late whether these will be available. There will be line-ups in front of the shed, different locomotives working on the demonstration line, and access to the cabs of some of the visiting locomotives.
