THE Sonning Common and Peppard B side went down to a 9-1 Reading and District League defeat against Our Lady of Peace in their latest round of matches.
Nial McGrane’s maximum moved Sonning Common and Peppard E up to third in Division 2 after they won 7-3 at Curzon Club A, Malcolm Gregory clinching the match win after holding off Jon Willis 11-13, 11-5, 10-12, 11-8, 11-7.
The Tilehurst Methodists A versus Sonning Common and Peppard D fixture went to the wire with Anthony Reeve beating Nigel Rowland 11-9, 7-11, 12-10, 7-11, 11-9 in the final set to grab a 6-4 victory for Sonning Common, Andrew Robertson having earlier clinched a good maximum.
In Division 4 Sonning Common and Peppard F had a 7-3 away win at Kingfisher K thanks to a hat-trick from Eric Walker.
Sonning Common and Peppard H continued their recent fine run in Division 5, with another 10-0 victory, this time beating Sonning Sports B. As anticipated, there were many close matches but, in the end, Mike Casserley, Gerry Bacon and Julian James all went home with maximums.
Former leaders Springfield D lost 6-4 to Sonning Common and Peppard G in a closely contested match. Oliver Sayer and Stephen Leggett had each won both of their previous sets, when they clashed in the crucial final set, and it looked like Leggett was earning Springfield a point, until Sayer turned it around, eventually winning 11-13, 10-12, 11-7, 11-5, 11-9. Helping Sonning Common and Peppard take the points were Marko Madzar, who won two, and Jim McClure, who won one.
