THE men’s A team of Henley Tennis Club made a good start to the year after a comprehensive victory against Banbury B on Saturday.
Fielding a strong side, Max Miles-Thomas and Jeremy Wright won comfortably 6-2, 6-1, against Banbury’s second pair. Andrew Jeremy and Eric Davies were working well in the early stages of their first rubber and took their opening set 6-3 but lost their second set 6-0.
Miles-Thomas and Wright made a slow start in their second match but Wright’s decisive net play and movement complemented by Miles-Thomas’s forehand ensured a 6-2 win in the first set.
Andrew Jeremy’s technique and footwork alongside Eric Davies’s experience on crucial points steered home a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 win in their second match.
With the match already tied up, some gruelling deuces in Miles-Thomas and Wright’s second set went the way of the home side and they eventually took their second set 6-2 and ensured an overall 7-1 win for Henley.
