Review: Combination of class and craft

Review: Combination of class and craft
All My Sons

Watermill Theatre Newbury

Wednesday, February 26

I counted two laughs in the whole two hours of All My Sons at the Watermill and that was one more than the rest of the audience on the night I was there. But it was still a stunning night with Arthur Miller’s all-round genius married to the Watermill’s class.

I have a couple of quibbles, nitpicking really because no one left the auditorium feeling less than enriched, but we’ll get to those. All My Sons is a tough play which skewers the notion of business at all costs. Money is king, emperor and God to Joe Keller, nothing gets in the way of making a dollar, not even allowing faulty fighter plane parts to go from his factory to the war effort.
