JUST a few months ago Henley actor James Gwynne was limbering up to play his first professional role as PC Pong in the Kenton Chistmas panto, Aladdin.

Now it’s spring he’s taken on another fun part at the theatre — in April he will be playing the lead role in a stage musical production of The Wedding Singer. It’s a show that he describes as a real “feelgood musical”.

“Aladdin was a lot of fun,” he said. “I met some lovely people. From my own point of view it was no different from doing any other show, the only difference was it was professional. But I’m in a full-time job at the moment at Invesco Perpetual, so it’s tricky to take time off for acting.”

James will play Robbie Hart — played in the movie version by Adam Sandler — an engaging and entertaining performer who sings at weddings. Together with his band mates Sammy and George he is the life and soul of the party. But when his fiancée, Linda, dumps him just before his own wedding he turns to despair. Suddenly singing for other people on their happy day does not exactly fill him with joy.
