THEATREGOERS in Henley may be tempted further afield to see the 125th anniversary production of Three Men in a Boat.
Jerome K Jerome’s classic is set to be staged by the Original Theatre Company at Bracknell’s South Hill Park theatre.
Director Craig Gilbert’s version of the comedic travelogue comes complete with a working pub, live piano accompaniment, some ale, music hall singing, a dog and a lot of physical comedy.
The play, set along the Thames at Henley, is broadly credited with bringing tourism to the river and has sold millions of copies worldwide.
Its author, Jerome, based his novel on his own experiences of navigating the river while on honeymoon and he settled in the area in his later years at Ewelme and is buried in the churchyard there.
