Down is the only way for a servant to go

FANS of Downton Abbey may have been devastated to hear the news this week that Julian Fellowes is penning his last series of the period drama for British TV before he rushes off to make even more fame and fortune in America, writes Lesley Potter.

But comedian Luke Kempner may provide the antidote.

The impressionist brings his show The Only Way Is Downton to the Oxford Playhouse for one night only next Saturday. The show was a sell-out at last year’s Edinburgh fringe festival and it will transfer to the West End later this year.

As celebrities start appearing at the abbey, cultures clash and eras collide in this affectionate parody. Familiar modern voices from popular TV shows pop up to help the cast of Downton save the estate from financial ruin.

Having made his name on YouTube with comedy skit Downstairs At Downton, comedy writer Kempner brings his debut solo show to the Playhouse following outstanding reviews. The singer, dancer and actor started his career in musical theatre, playing Marius in the UK tour of Les Misérables, appearing in Avenue Q and most recently in the UK tour of South Pacific.
