SHADDO cast at Shiplake Memorial Hall

THERE are strange and shaddowy goings-on afoot at Shiplake Memorial Hall this weekend.

The Shiplake and Dunsden Dramatic Organisation — or SHADDO — are staging their 13th annual panto, and this year it’s Beauty and the Beast.

The show, by Ben Crocker, features a Beast consigned to his castle and a beauty called Rose, naturally.

However some other creatures seem to have mysteriously made their way into the cast, including a number of wolves and bears, and a sophisticated but temperamental French poodle, Felix.

In another twist of the original plot, it’s Rose’s loving mother, Ma, who has to trudge her way through the snow-laden forest from the quaint village of BateauLac to confront the beast.

The show also featues talking furniture, including an accommodating Commode, Lumière the chatty clock and cooks Aga and Larder.

SHADDO spokesperson Eryl Price-Davies said: “If you are not too scared of the Beast, or the wolves and bears, come down to enjoy Beauty and the Beast.”

The show takes place at the Memorial Hall in Shiplake this weekend, from Thursday, January 30 to Saturday, February 1. Tickets are on sale at the village shop in Lower Shiplake and Binfield Heath Stores.
