Top team put on original new Sherlock

A NEW and original Sherlock Holmes play will have its pre West End premiere in Henley in September, and the appointment of the director and set design team has been announced.

Producer Ed Simons commented: “We are extremely excited to have been able to bring on board some great theatre talent, who have much experience in staging plays of West End and Broadway calibre.”

Russell Labey, who will direct To Kill A Canary, directed his own adaptation of New Boy at the Trafalgar Studios in 2009 with Nicholas Hoult, and won the TMA award for best new musical for his Whistle Down The Wind. Russell has also been resident director at the Palladium, working on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Outside of the theatre, he was script editor on the Gus Van Sant movie Milk.

Joining Russell on the production team is Jason Denvir as set designer, and magician Neil Henry. Jason’s much-respected work and talent will bring the darkness and sense of danger felt in the streets of London during 1916 to the heart of Henley next month.

Jason’s work has been seen in theatres all over the world and has included set design for Three Little Pigs, Jesus Christ Superstar and Mack and Mabel.
