Strong performances in comedy

Review: OXFORD Theatre Guild have chosen an Alan Bennett production for their autumn show.

The Habit of Art will be staged at the Wesley Memorial Church. The play is set in Oxford itself in 1973, during a fictitious meeting between WH Auden, Benjamin Britten and Humphrey Carpenter. It is both a laugh-out loud comedy of misunderstandings and a thought-provoking meditation on artists and their work. Not least because the invented meeting is itself the subject of a ‘play-within-a-play’.

The show opens on November 5 and runs until November 8. Box office 01865 305305 or online at www.oxfordplayhouse.com

BILLED as a comical play, Day of Reckoning also had its darker moments and explored some contemporary themes.
