HANDS up all those of you who remember the Rat Pack, writes Lesley Potter. Chances are, even if you are too young to know who they are, you will have picked up on the glitz and glamour of this era from remakes of films like Ocean’s 11.
Now a touring show, Rat Pack Vegas Spectacular, brings back the memory of those purveyors of cool when it comes to Oxford’s New Theatre on Friday, January 18.
The original Rat Pack was a group of actors centred on Humphrey Bogart. But in the Sixties it became the name used by the general public and the press to refer to a later variation of the group.
This featured Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop, who appeared together on stage and in films during the early Sixties.
The new stage show features many of the songs made famous by the group.
These include Come Fly With Me, Under My Skin, Mr Bojangles, Lady Is A Tramp, That’s Amore, Mack The Knife, and Sway.
The music is brought to life with a trio of live singers depicting the hipsters of the group, backed by a live orchestra and a group of glamorous show girls.
Tickets for the show on Friday, January 18 are £17 to £21, and accompanied children are free in the £17 seats. Box office: 0844 871 3020.
