A sprinkle of Porter

A NEW production of Cole Porter’s musical High Society comes to the Wycombe Swan in June.

A NEW production of Cole Porter’s musical High Society comes to the Wycombe Swan in June.

The show, which runs from Tuesday, June 25 to Saturday, June 29, is billed by the theatre as the “musical event of the season”.

The musical tells the story of wealthy socialite, Tracy Lord, who is in the middle of planning a lavish summer wedding when her ex-husband Dexter Haven turns up to disrupt the proceedings in an attempt to win her back again.

There is a further twist in the form of charming reporter Mike Connor who falls instantly for Tracy, and she for him. As the day of the wedding draws closer, the audience is left guessing which one she will choose for her groom.

The tour is produced by Music & Lyrics, a consortium of the UK’s largest independent venues — including the Wycombe Swan — that has been formed to stimulate and create new musical productions. Their first production last year, The King And I, won the award for Best Presentation of Touring Theatre in the UK Theatre Awards 2012.

Executive producer John Stalker said: “High Society is a beautiful musical that is remembered fondly from the 1956 film. We are excited to have been invited to create this major revival.”

The cast is headed up by Michael Praed playing Dexter Haven. His theatre credits include playing Captain von Trapp in the recent UK tour of The Sound Of Music.

Tickets from £23 are available from the box office on 01494 512000 or visit www.wycombeswan.co.uk
