The Secret is out

THE world premiere of Agatha Christie’s The Secret Adversary is being staged at Newbury’s Watermill Theatre on Thursday.

THE world premiere of Agatha Christie’s The Secret Adversary is being staged at Newbury’s Watermill Theatre on Thursday.

Adaptations from the exquisitely-crafted whodunnits from the high mistress of crime have been packing out theatres for decades. For this new adaptation, crime-fighting duo Tommy and Tuppence have been brought to life by Sarah Pushton and Johann Hari.

The first new staging of a Christie novel for more than a decade is part of the 125th anniversary celebrations by Agatha Christie Limited, which owns the rights to most of Christie’s works.

The first stories of the crimefighting duo were described by the Times Literary Supplement in 1922 as “a whirl of thrilling adventures.” This fresh production promises fast-paced action, with comedy, romance and live music.

Performances are Thursday to Saturday, March 21, at 7.30pm, with Thursday and Sunday matinees. Tickets cost £14.50-£26.20 from 01635 46044 or visit www.watermill.org.uk.
