Henley musician and radio presenter Mike Read will be introducing The Jive Aces when they take to the stage at the Kenton Theatre tonight - and has promised to join the band on stage for a couple of numbers.
Mike, who had the Aces play live on his BBC Radio Berkshire show last week, said, “It should be a great evening, they are good guys and fantastically entertaining.”
Mike and the band played together at his Anything Can Happen charity concert at the Kenton last October and also recorded a cover of Morecambe and Wise’s signature tune Bring Me Sunshine to raise money for victims of last year’s floods.
Mike will be bringing along his guitarlele - a six-stringed cross between a guitar and a ukelele - and it may be a night of duelling guitarleles.
“The band said they had never seen one before,“ said Mike. “They thought it was fantastic, perfect for swing, and now the keyboard player says he will be getting one - he may actually have one on the night.”
After introducing The Jive Aces, Mike said he will let the lads do their stuff before getting up to join them for a song or two. However, he drew a line at donning one of their trademark yellow suits.
“I don’t want to look like a six-foot canary,“ he said. “I may wear something that clashes instead.”
The Jive Aces will be at the Kenton Theatre at 7.30pm tonight. Tickets cost £14 to £25 from (01491) 575698 or www.kenton theatre.co.uk
